This theme takes a systems-based approach to delivering sustainable food production. Emerging innovations in pre-farm gate production include precision agriculture (e.g. in the application of fertilisers and pesticides), diagnostics (in crop and animal disease surveillance and treatment) and genomics (in plant and animal breeding and in understanding soil microbes and their contribution to soil function).

Tackling piglet mortality
Through contributing to understanding of the immune factors that contribute to piglet survival, PROHEALTH investigates (and will ultimately create) adoptable, cost-effective, and environmentally sustainable methods to improving sow health and piglet survival in intensive pig production systems.
