Professor of Marketing
Professor Bob Doherty is Chair of Marketing and Acting Dean at the University of York’s Management School. Prior to his move into academia, Bob spent five years as Head of Sales and Marketing at Divine Chocolate, a Fairtrade social enterprise. He is a research leader on Food at the York Environmental Sustainability Institute (YESI), where his research focuses on the marketing and management aspects of social enterprises and fair trade organisations. He is especially interested in alternative approaches to reconfiguring value chains, with a particular focus on social innovation, as well as the challenges of governance and entrepreneurship in business models trying to balance their commercial, social and environmental objectives. He has been editor-in-chief of the Social Enterprise Journal for nearly a decade. Bob is currently Principal Investigator on a White Rose funded grant, Building Up Resilience in Supply Chains (BURNS), which works in partnership with the Universities of Leeds and Sheffield, and various stakeholders in the UK food industry, including retailers and manufacturers. He is also a member of the organising committees for both the International Social Innovation Research Conference (ISIRC) and the International Fair Trade Symposium.
